Setting Up the Perfect Bed for My Airbnb Cabin Guests
Share
Setting up the bed at my Airbnb was, thankfully, way easier than I expected. The previous owner left us a solid metal bed frame and box spring, both in great condition, so all we needed to do was find a mattress and the bedding. Simple, right? Well, almost!
I picked a plush-feel pillow-top mattress because let’s face it—if you’re staying in a mountain cabin, you want a night of dream-worthy sleep. No one’s waking up to chilly mountain air without a mattress that feels like a cloud.
Encasements: The Unsung Heroes of Bed Protection
Now, here’s a tip I didn’t think I’d be so excited about: encasements. And I mean full, waterproof, 360-degree coverage for both the mattress and the box spring. You just can’t skip this step. I went with a Linenspa Box Spring Encasement that completely wraps the box spring like a giant, protective hug. For the mattress, I chose a full encasement over a regular protector, which is just a cover for the top and sides. Because let’s be honest—when you’re hosting guests, you never know what surprises might come along, and a little extra armor for the mattress investment feels pretty smart.
Layering for That “Next Level” Comfort
Next, I added a mattress topper for a little extra oomph in the comfort department. Something breathable and cooling is a must; this simple step just takes the cozy factor up a notch. And if you’re in the market for topper advice, trust me: it’s worth the splurge.
Bedding: 100% Cotton, Always
For sheets, I’m a huge fan of 100% cotton. It just feels right, you know? I went with a hotel-grade set, and if you’re on the fence about this one, let me tell you—1000 thread count makes a difference. These sheets might cost a bit more, but they’re tough, last longer, and keep guests happy (and let’s face it, that means fewer replacement costs!).
Pillow Talk: Options Are Key
For pillows, you’ll want a set of at least four—two for the main bedding and two for the quilt. And don’t forget to mix up the firmness! If you’re catering to all types of guests, offering options is a nice touch.
The Duvet vs. Flat Sheet Debate
Alright, I won’t drag you down the rabbit hole of duvet versus flat sheet debates. But as someone raised in Eastern Europe, I’m team duvet all the way. I found an affordable cotton duvet cover on Amazon, and so far, none of my 50 guests have objected (no complaints is a win!). I paired it with a Bedsure Comforter Duvet Insert, a great all-season choice that’s lightweight yet cozy.
Of course, if duvets aren’t your thing, feel free to go with the classic flat sheet—whatever works for you!
Finishing Touches: Quilts, Accent Pillows, and Throws
Finally, I layered on a simple quilt in a neutral, solid color so I could have a little fun with decorative pillows. The bed needed that extra something, so I went with a few fur pillows and a round one in the center for some cozy style points. Then, a soft throw blanket went on top for guests who want a quick snuggle without mussing the bedding.
So, there it is—my formula for a bed that’s cozy, clean, and inviting. Because if we’re going to spend a third of our lives asleep, we might as well do it in style!
